The Great Gatsby || Baz Luhrmann

Well, the trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s long-awaited (or long-dreaded, depending on your tastes…) version of The Great Gatsby is here!

That is… well, it is interesting. Interestingly scored, interestingly cast… there will certainly be lots to look at, style-wise.

The Great Gatsby is a perennial favorite for vintage-wedding inspiration, and there is certainly a lot of eye candy in the trailer. Any thoughts?

(I have lots of thoughts. I will share this one: I sure do like the fonts/graphic design!)

  1. I was so excited for this movie because like many others, I loved the book. But upon seeing the trailer my hopes for it were shot. The style, like you said, will be amazing and frankly a lot of the people watching this film, will be watching it for the style alone. The actors seem like a great cast because they are all very successful in their own ventures. Although I saw Mr.Gatsby as an older man but anyways, the 3D aspect totally ruins it for me! I feel like 3D should be used for action and kids movies. Directors are over-using it so much so that it’s driving people away. You don’t need it for this kind of movie because the style and graphics alone are going to be visually stimulating! And it also looks a little too circusy. But besides that, I will watch the movie because I’m a sucker for art deco.

Completely agree on all counts! Hopefully we won’t HAVE to watch in 3D… there are several movies that have come out this year that were released in 3D but also showed regularly (Avengers, Prometheus…). I truly hope that will be an option for this as well.

    So looking forward to this!

  3. I almost didn’t make it through the trailer because of the music. Please tell me that they are not using that as the sound track to a Jazz-Age period movie!!!! It looks so beautifully art directed, the costumes look stunning and since I loved his Moulin Rouge I hope that I will like this as well. BUT that music? I could just cry.

Visually it looks good, but the music? Ugh, spare me, and 3D? Thats a joke if I’ve ever heard one!
